The Torres Strait - 'TEARNS/Suite for Berna' - is an album that presents two short works of electronic music.

The first, 'TEARNS', was strongly influenced by the work of Daphne Oram (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daphne_Oram) and is broken down into 8 parts.

The second work included on the release is titled 'Suite for Berna', after the beautiful piece of software by Giorgio Sancristoforo (www.gleetchplug.com/gleetchplug/berna.html) that the work was composed on.
It is a three movement composition, but as all three parts are intended to be heard together and in sequence, they are released as a single track.

Both works herald back to the fascinating, unpredictable, and sometimes downright noisy world of the early days of electronic music in the 1950s and '60s.

The Torres Strait is music by Thom Carter. The project takes its name from a (real) place where the submarine Nautilus became stranded in Jules Verne's classic science-fiction novel 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea'
